Based in Melbourne with a diverse background in the zine, poster art, poetry, street art and activist communities, Breakdown Press aims to produce ethically printed and affordable publications.
We have been producing posters, zines and anthologies since 2004, bringing together the work of exciting Australian and International artists and writers. To date publications include: Scrapbook to Somewhere, The Stolenwealth Posters, The Breakdown Posters, The Nuclear Posters, Civilian Sticker Packs, Civilians Unite, Mining, the zine anthology YOU: some letters from the first five years and HOW TO MAKE TROUBLE AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE: Pranks, Hoaxes, Graffiti and Political Mischief-Makings from across Australia. Breakdown Press is co-run by Tom Sevil and Lou Smith, and a bunch of amazing friends and family, all of whom have a longstanding love of zines, street art, poetry and alternative media communities. www.breakdownpress.org

TOM SEVIL (AKA Civil) is an community graphic designer and artist. Since completing a Bachelor of Environmental Science in 1999 he has gone on to become involved in the independent media and publishing community. Tom has worked as a graphic designer for many political and community organisations including 3CR 855AM and the 2006-9 Seeds of Dissent Calendars; The Big Issue; Voiceworks Magazine 2003–2005; The Paper; Melbourne Indymedia; NGO-in-a-Box Free & Open Source Software CDs; Stolenwealth Games, Stop G20 and Tassie Forests campaigns. His stencil work has been featured in the publication Melbourne Stencil Art Capital, the film Rash, ABC series NotQuiteArt, TV show Guerilla Gardeners and he has been a feature artist in Melbourne Stencil Festival 2004/05 and the London Cans Festival in 2008. He has also exhibited in a variety of art spaces and run mural and stencil-making workshops with young people.
LOU SMITH is a poet, editor and radio programmer. Her poetry has been published in Australian and international journals, anthologies and new media works such as Wasafiri, Kunpaipi, Overland, A Place Tells a Story and Mascara Poetry. For the past 7 years she has produced and programmed the DIY Arts Show on 3CR Community Radio focusing on experimental, grassroots and community arts and music. She has worked as an events co-ordinator and facilitator for community events and festivals celebrating cultural diversity. Currently Lou is undertaking a PhD in Creative Writing at The University of Melbourne.
